Humanities

Humanties at Mount Erin

Vision:

The aim of the Humanities Domain is to engender in our students a passion for learning and a curiosity about the world they live in. Through the various strands of Humanities, we help students explore the complexities of what it means to be human over time and in different settings and the impact they have on the world and the world has on them.

Mission:

To enable students to achieve understanding of Humanities concepts and skills beyond their initial comprehension and expectations.

  • Junior: growth in Humanities in each of the areas of Humanities teaching and an understanding of the breadth of the Humanities area – History, Geography, Commerce Civics
  • Senior: achieve at or above their predicted result in at least one (two) VCE Humanities study.
Philosophy:

The experience of Humanities at Mount Erin College is based on the idea that students must understand the impact people have on the world in a physical, social and economic sense. In order to do this students must develop skills in asking and answering questions to bring a better knowledge of both the problems faced by people at an individual level as well as at a community and societal level.

Teachers offer opportunities for students to discover new knowledge and to ask questions of accepted understandings. This allows students to grow their understanding and abilities to think for themselves and defend their opinions.
