Jacques loves his hockey and extremely excited to see the new hockey facility at Mount Erin College materialise, as it will support his commitment to improving and excelling at the game. This is evident in the fact that he trained at least 3 times a week during this first term, two sessions for the Victorian state team and at least one session for his club. Over the past year at the peak of his hockey participation and preparation for Nationals, he was either training or playing games 5 days a week.
Jacques has been involved in hockey since he was in Grade 2, so this would be his 9th year of playing hockey, including supporting the growth of the game, which he is keen to see grow within the school. Over the past year, Jacques has represented:
1. His club at both junior and senior (over 18’s) level, winning best and fairest in both for the 2018 season, and winning the gold medal with his junior team at the top U14 level across Hockey Victoria.
2. State of Victoria 1st team at the U15 National championships (both 2018 and 2019).
3. Mount Erin College both on the field and in the goalkeeper position, narrowly missing out on advancing to the next stages of competition.
Jacques understands the importance of getting a good education in the event that he is not able to continue competing in his sport, so he continues to work hard at completing all his school assignments along with his daily physical training at home or club to improve his strength, flexibility and fitness.

Emily started the year in January gaining selection for the U15 Victorian indoor hockey team. The Nationals Championships were held in Goulburn, NSW and Emily was named as Vice-Captain. The team played well and came home with a bronze medal.
During the summer months in the off season Emily was a part of the Hockey Victoria U18 Academy Program. Performing well Emily was then invited to train in February alongside the Victorian Institute of Sports Program for emerging athletes – this gave her the opportunity to train alongside some of the best players in Victoria and was a great experience.
This was shortly followed by being named in the U18 outdoor team which travelled to Hobart for nationals in April. This was a great achievement for Emily as she was only 15 at the time of selection in a very competitive older age group. The team placed 4th at nationals.
Most recently Emily was selected for the U16 School Sports Victoria team as the only goalkeeper which will head to Newcastle in early August.
Emily trains and plays for Toorak East Malvern Hockey Club in the Premier League women’s hockey division where she trains and plays games up to four times a week. She is a valued member of the Mount Erin College Sports Academy.
